Data Center Technician

Server Has No Network Connectivity

Practice a disciplined rack-side troubleshooting workflow without making unsafe or unauthorized changes.

Practice environment: This is an educational scenario. Work only on systems you own or are authorized to use. Follow employer, equipment and safety procedures in real environments.
STEP 1

Read the ticket

Identify server, rack, port, reported symptom, impact and approved scope.

STEP 2

Confirm scope

Determine whether one server, one rack or a wider service is affected.

STEP 3

Physical and link checks

Verify expected cabling, link indicators and labels without disconnecting unrelated equipment.

STEP 4

Gather evidence

Record interface/link observations and any approved console or monitoring information.

STEP 5

Form a hypothesis

Separate facts from assumptions; decide what evidence would confirm the next likely cause.

STEP 6

Verify and document

After an approved action, verify connectivity and record what changed, result and escalation status.

Finish the lab

Write a short ticket-style summary: symptom, scope, evidence, hypothesis, action or recommendation, and verification.
